Nominated programs can be evaluated at this time.

I have uploaded revised pages. The pages that will become the final
PL2004 web pages have been revised to show *only* the programs that
received a second during the nomination period (including the
alphabetical list and the category page).

The nominations page shows all nominated programs, the links for
programs that did not receive a second now point to a new set of pages
for nominated programs. Descriptions of all nominated programs that are
*not* selected for PL2004 will eventually be moved to these pages.

Please take a look at the new furniture arrangement and let me know what
you think. ;)

Thanks for the heads-up Karen.

I think I may have broken a whole bunch of local links . . .

be careful where you put your feet . . .

the clean-up crew begins work tomorrow. ;)

period are listed below in alphabetical order.
AR RAM Disk
a Ram Disk driver/utility for NT/2k/XP
XMS.EMS RAMdisk
a Ram Disk driver/utility for Win9x/DOS.

Surprised to note these two Ram Disk utilities did not make it past
the nomination phase. AFAIK there are no other RAM DISK
drivers/utilities nominated for the PL.

If curios about these two, see my nomination post with descriptions
and links <or
<http://google.com/groups?&[email protected]>

....or to see what others have said about AR Ram Disk and/or XMSDISK,
one might also want to try a Google search - like (modify if needed);

search USENET groups for "AR Ram Disk":
<http://groups.google.com/groups?&q="AR+Ram+Disk"&num=100>
search USENET groups for xmsdsk OR xmsdisk:
<http://groups.google.com/groups?as_oq=xmsdsk xmsdisk&num=100>

search the WEB for "AR Ram Disk" AND review:

search the WEB for review AND xmsdsk OR xmsdisk

On second thought - I think maybe my post (and any follow-up comments
from others about the two programs) belongs in the System Utilities
thread, since it can and should be read as invitation to
try/nominate/second the two programs. I have therefor now posted a
copy of my post in the System Utilities thread, see

Nominated programs can be evaluated at this time. A valuable program may
been have been overlooked during the nomination period. Late nominations
and seconds are permitted during the discussion period if there is
support for the program.

AVA FIND was nominated and seconded in the File Utilities thread. I will
add it to the nominations list.

but . . .

Just to clarify things a bit (I hope) . . . ;)

*Nominations* *are* ***closed***

If discussion shows that there is support for adding a program it can be
placed on the Nominations List. This is allowed as a means to correct
serious omissions.

It is *not* an extension of the nomination period.

Questions?

No. An extremely great job though. Take a bow. If someone sees you it
won't be all that bad. You have earned it!

Oh my! Thank you sir. :) We've still got a ton of programs in some
categories - I thought there would be more discussion by now -
especially where there is a lot of competition for the top spot. Is
everybody talked out? Are they off hunting? I'm *hoping* to try out a
few programs before the vote - I need more info! ;)

Saw your post with the URL for the text editor page - you gave me far
too much credit and are *much* too modest about your own hard work. When
I get a minute I'll add the URL to the info page - just haven't gotten
there yet.

83 *new* programs were nominated and received seconds. Most of these

Happy Thanksgiving to everybody who will be celebrating it tomorrow.

My out-of-town *kids* and grandkids arrive today. :)

That means no time to work on the PL. :(

The voting period may have to be moved to a later date.

It doesn't look as if the new program descriptions will be complete by
December 1. I am reluctant to remove a large number of programs from
the ballot.

There are issues that need to be resolved - mostly questions about
*which* version we are voting on.

These programs have unresolved description *issues*:

AI RoboForm - VERSION?

Desktop Architect - WARNING? porn / spyware?

Graph Paper Printer - VERSION?

Kerio Personal Firewall - VERSION?

Mailwasher -VERSION?

PopCorn - VERSION?

Terragen - Crippled?

TypeItIn - VERSION?

WinDriversBackup Personal Edition - now $ware: is a legal last freeware
version available?

-----------

FWIW - I spent most of yesterday updating PL2003 programs and only
managed to get about 20 finished (searching for new download locations
etc. etc. etc.)

AFAIK these new programs have incomplete descriptions (I haven't looked
at all of them - some may be complete):

AFAIK these new programs have incomplete descriptions (I haven't looked

Oscar's File Renamer

PROGRAM NAME
Oscar's File Renamer

WARE DESCRIPTION
Freeware

OS:
Unstated, but known to run on Win95, Win98, Win2000, and ???.

LANGUAGES:
English

DESCRIPTION
"The Renamer takes and enhances the idea of editing files in directory
in a full featured Text editor and then writing all the changes at
once into the files. It works simple: Open Renamer, select directory
and the files will appear in the File Name Editor which is a normal
full featured text editor with some additional changes (f.e. you can't
add or delete [a line or enter invalid characters in a filename]). You
can use all the editor functions like Quick find, Replace, multiple
Undo/Redo, Macros and of course normal editing [as well as various
tools like Upper Case/Lower Case or sequential numbering]. Each file
is on a new line and [you] can easily move with arrows like in a
normal text. When the files you wanted to rename are done simply click
Apply Changes and all files will be physically renamed." Original
filenames are visible in a separate small pane and all changed lines
are highlighted. The actual changes are only written to disk when
you press Apply Changes, not during editing. Even then you can undo
changes you just applied.

NOTES:
The Renamer includes an option to add a context menu for files but
not directories. The macro tool only records keyboard entry, not
mouse movements.

COMMENTS:
Sometimes the easiest way to change filenames is just to directly edit
them. If the changes are repetitive, then use the keyboard macro
feature. The Renamer offers minimal help as part of the site
description, but if you know how to use an editor, who needs more?
Oscar's File Renamer is the most intuitive renamer of the bunch.

Personal comment:
This program has a definitely weird interface, and some rather immature-ish
features (Eleet, stardate, etc). Nevertheless it is the one I always come back
to for serious renaming. Not for the non-techie user, but when you get the hang
of it then it is both extremely powerful and fast/easy to use.

A usability hint: set the command line switches in a shortcut. For ex
"C:\Program Files\1-4a-rename\rename.exe" /noc /e c:\mydownloadpath.
Then always start by unchecking the darn "typical song standards" box.

Note & personal evaluation:
Agent and FreeAgent are the most used newsclient for text groups. Great user
interface. An important missing feature for heavy users is the restriction of a
