I am very confused on how to nominate a new candidate. The link brings me
to a list of existing canditates.

In any case I would like to nominate Agent Ransack. www.agentransack.com.
It's a replacement for the windows 'search' utility. The 'lite' version
totally blows the built-in utility away, Very nice.

Someone tell me how to do this officially!!

An extremly small, very fast and easy to use media cataloging tool. You can
use it to index files stored on removable media (CD-ROMs, LS120, Iomega Zip
and Jaz disks, or even diskettes), hard disks or net drives, and create
searchable catalogs that can be used without having access to original
media

Hi Don,

Agent Ransack is on the 2003 PL - it was automatically nominated. (All
the programs shown on the Nominations page been nominated.)

You can *second* Agent Ransack in the Carryover Nominations thread.

Just FYI: for new nominations use the New Nominations thread.

List the information that's needed for the Nominations page:

The program name
The program category and subcategory
Cross-references (optional)
Ware Type

I expect others will be confused too since this is a new procedure. If
you still have questions just keep asking. :)

I am very confused on how to nominate a new candidate. The link

The link brings you to a list of programs which have been nominated
automatically by virtue of being on the previous year's PL. As the
nomination process goes forward, it will be updated with new
nominations as well.

To make the ballot for the 2004 PL, each program needs to be
nominated and have it's nomination seconded. The thread in which to
second programs from the previous list has Subject "[PL] 2004
Carryover Nominations".

Duplicate nominations count as seconds, but make it harder to keep
track of the process.

I've copied and pasted your nomination, which counts as a second,
into the appropriate thread, so it won't be missed. If there are any
more of these carryovers you would like to see on the ballot, post in
that thread please.

Nominations are now open for the the 2004 Pricelessware list.

Security: Encryption tool

AxCrypt 1.4.3 (296kb) http://axcrypt.sourceforge.net/

Author's notes: AxCrypt is free and easy to use open source strong
file encryption for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2K/XP, integrated with Windows
Explorer. Encrypt, compress, decrypt, wipe, view and edit with a few
mouse clicks. Cryptographic primitives are AES-128 and SHA-1.

Encrypted files have a ".axx" extension added to their names, and are
shown with a new icon.
To encrypt a file, right-click it in Windows Explorer and select
'AxCrypt | Encrypt'.
To edit or view an encrypted file - just double-click it.
To decrypt, right-click and select 'AxCrypt | Decrypt' instead.
No configuration is necessary. Run the installer, and AxCrypt is ready
to use.
English, German, French, Spanish, Italian or Swedish will be used for
messages and dialogues depending on the language of the system.
Documentation (this document) and installation scripts are in English.

Comments: This is the most reliable and effective encryption program
I've tried, and it is easy to use. But when done working with your
encrypted files, you need to remember to right click and select 'clear
passphrase memory' to make your file inaccessible again.

As a minimum please submit the information required for the Nominations

descriptions thread.

I would like to nominate the following:
category: ORGANIZERS: 1 Cataloger
NGDiskCat
http://ngdiskcat.nickgeorgakis.cjb.net/
It's very fast. A very useful feature is that it also catalogs zip and
rar file contents and MP3 tags. So you can also search on them

Gees, I am really getting sick of all the MS bashers in this list. Some ppl
find their (MS)software useful so please keep your opinions to yourself and
don't start your standard anti-MS crap on the PL Nomination list. There is
no need for objections (other than software that doesn't meet the freeware
caveat)as this is a NOMINATION list. If you don't like it, don't second it.
It's that simple.

Nominations are now open for the the 2004 Pricelessware list.

Category: Internet (Web tool; Popup Killer)

popup manager 190kb http://www.endpopups.com/

Author's Notes: Browse the web as you normally would.
When a popup is blocked the widget will turn red.
Hover over the widget for information about a blocked popup.
Clicking on an 'E' icon will open a blocked popup.
Popups that you have initiated will not be blocked.
Right click the widget to set options for the site you are on.
Temporarily disable by holding down the 'CTRL' key.
Works with IE 5 & 6 on Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2K/XP.
FREE for personal use.

Comments: Of some 20 popup blockers I have tried, this is the best.
After a month of heavy use, I have had 0 advertising popups, and it
has closed 0 windows that I have initiated.

Program Name Newsproxy (aka Nfilter)
www.nfilter.org

Description

A newsreader filter proxy for use with newsreaders with limited filtering.
Useful for filtering newsgroups which are being targeted by a troll.

Newsproxy can be used with your existing newsreader to provide
more advanced filtering rules eg blocking cross-posts.

It supports regular expressions and scoring. If your news server
supports the XHDR command it can filter on any message header
(eg NNTP-Posting-Host:)

Known bugs:

Doesn't handle some malformatted rules correctly - may cause
Newsproxy to be shutdown (page fault).

MSbasher? If you say so.

Actually, I was not referring to OE,it was just a mistake in quoting.

I *do* have some doubts abt some of the programs in your list. But as
you said, I'll keep my doubts to myself since there is no need to start a
senseless debate until someone seconds them.

No point getting start a flame war over something is not going to be
voted on right?

I want to add a new nomination for:

Program name: Hot Key Plus 1.0 by Brian Apps
Category: Desktop
Sub-category: Keyboard shortcuts
Operating systems: MS Windows 98/NT/2000
Homepage: http://www.jugglesaver.co.uk/hotkeyplus/

Hot Key Plus is a small freeware utility that allows you to launch
applications using the 'Windows' keys (the ones with the Windows icon
on them) on your keyboard. This is a very small application (19,968
bytes) and doesn't require installation, just double click on the exe
file. Besides executables it can launch Control Panel applets (.cpl
files), shortcuts and URLs.
