Windows XP xppro

Hello All,
My brother-in-law has bought a pc from a neighbour. More about the hardware in another thread.
The OS comes up as XP Pro (SP2). In System there is no OEM number and it is registered to 'PRIVATE'. There is no OS disk with the PC and the Product Key sticker has been pealed off the side case. Am I right in thinking there is something wrong here?

Yep ... I would be suspect too.

However, simply pop on over to Windows Update and see if it flags it as an illegal copy.

He's probably kept the license for himself and flogged the PC without removing the O/s

Did try Windows Update but nothing happened. Have posted re the hardware and would welcome your opinions - would not like Brother-in-Law's collar felt!

The worst that will happen is it gets rejected at some time ... nobody will be making a call on your brother.
