XP Windows Explorer - all system items change to 'Desktop'

I have a problem with Windows Explorer under Windows XP Professional
(Service Pack 2, with all latest updates). Whenever I open an Explorer
window, the My Computer icons and all drives under it show normally.
After a short period, they all change to say 'Desktop'. They still
work normally, so I can access the drives, but it's very annoying.
Opening another Explorer window temporarily solves the problem - until
that one changes too.

Has anyone else had this annoyance? How can I fix it?

Hi Jaymie,

Do you have the "Desktop" toolband (in the Taskbar) enabled? Turning it off
will workaround the problem.

Thanks Ramesh, I'll give that a go in work tomorrow. Is there another
way around it? I find having the Desktop toolband in the taskbar
really useful. If not, I'll learn to live without it. ;o)

Thanks again.

There is no other workaround AFAIK, Jaymie.

Right-click on the empty area in the Taskbar, select Toolbars and uncheck
Desktop.
