XP SP2 has changed wireless network

After installing XP2 I have lost my network connection. I use a NETGEAR
wireless router and it is overriding it. XP now automatically detects a
wireless network and trys to connect with its own software. I now have 2
wireless icons in the bottom right tool bar. The original NETGEAR and the
new one that came with SP2. After startup they both show connected with good
strength but I am unable to surf the net. It seems that the new one is
overriding my NETGEAR.

Does anyone know how I can disable the XP wireless network from starting up
after reboot? Or any other ideas that may help.

Thanks,
Gord

You don't need two Mgmt & Control watchdogs for Wireless.
They (Netgear & Ms-Wireless) are both contending for control.
While you've probably gotten used to using the Netgear applet,
I would suggest you uninstall it and use the in-built Wireless
control. This is one of those situations where XP is playing catch
up with it's own Wireless control center. Just be sure to note
any WEP or other security codes in your router to apply to the
XP Wireless control.

I had a similar problem with a wireless ADSL modem in that on installing SP2
on my laptop I could not access the internet.

Found the problem was that I was apparently running Zone Alarm and the new
firewall simulataneously. Turned both off, set ZA on and connection worked
fine.

I have netgear wireless and it's working fine and no
conflict with xp sp2 . try going to netgear support site
and make sure you have latest firmware for your router.
http://kbserver.netgear.com/main.asp also i'd disable
windows wireless from your device manager or control
panel vgl2u

Start > Run > Type: msconfig > Services tab > Uncheck "Wireless Zero
Configuration" > OK

Reboot.
