machine running xp pro sp2 that was connecting to network until it was moved
across the room. everything is hardwired so no wireless issues. i pinged but
it does not respond all ip config settings are fine, i renewed ip from server
without problem, server sees it on network but cannot connect. it sees
nothing and will not ping to other machines. the other 8 machines and server
have no problems.
i am out of ideas.

Since things worked before you moved the PC, and if you
did not change anything during the move, then you most
likely have a cabling/connector problem.

You need to rejoin it again to the Domain or workgroup and all cables and
settings are checked Okay.
Also try to ipconfig /all on that machine and on one of the other working
machine and compare the result and see if this machine different in any thing
and reset it.
Also the command : netsh winsock reset and Reboot.
HTH.
