I have several PCs connected to a network according to the following
IP scheme:
Res1 192.168.1.5
Res2 192.168.1.4
Res3 192.168.1.3
Server 192.168.1.12
I have a wireless router on 192.168.1.1 and a laptop connects
wirelessly to the network via this, getting an address 192.168.1.101
via the router's DHCP server.
All PCs apart from the laptop have default gateway and DNS server IPs
set to that of the router. All are running Windows XP, Server being
Pro and Res1,2 and 3 Home. No firewalls are running.
Now to the weird problem. Server and Res3 can happily ping each other;
indeed, they can even share files. They cannot, however, ping any
other machine - not even the router. Res1 and Res2 can ping any
machine except Server and Res3; the laptop can ping any machine except
Server and Res3. It's as if the latter are on their own network, but
this is not the case: all machines except laptop connect to a standard
16 way switch. I've tried changing cables and switch to no avail.
The router is a standard cable type, not connected to a cable
broadband service yet, but it will soon be.
Please help. I'm at my wit's end here, having never come across a
problem like this before.
