Still trying to get help here. Basically, my wireless network works okay,
but one of the laptops can't find the network printer connected by ethernet
cable to the router. I can ping the IP address okay but not browse to it or
add it by entering the IP address. Help please.

Not enough information. All we know is that you have a networked
printer. Things we need to know and things you need to try:

1. What is the make/model of the printer?
2. Did it ever work? If yes, what changed?
3. Did you run the printer install (from CD or downloaded from printer
mftr.'s website) on the laptop? If not, do this.
4. If you ran the printer install but still can't get to the printer, if
it is an HP try the HP network printer wizard from here:

Thanks for getting back. Dell 1700n ethernet cable to Linksys router with
Linksys accesspoint also in the string (used to be desktops in the system but
now just two laptops for the past year). System worked well until this
month. Two changes to the environment.

Added Spysweeper to both laptops. It doesn't bother the Dell D620 running
XP PRO SP2, which can see all, do all on the home network.

The Sony Vaio was rebuilt with new hard drive. It runs XP Home. It sees
the PRO but can't see or browse to the printer even though it can ping it.
It can print sharing PRO's printer, but only if PRO is awake.

First of all since your Dell 1700n is a networked printer connected
directly to the network, sharing on the lan between computers is not
involved. Therefore I'm not sure why you included information about the
Sony not being able to browse the printer on the PRO machine. You
wouldn't be doing this to get the Sony to print to the Dell 1700n anyway.

To install the 1700n onto the Sony, insert the Dell driver disk that
came with the printer (or download the drivers if you have misplaced the
disk). Install the drivers. You don't need to install the printer
management software on the Sony. During the installation process the
Dell 1700n will be found and the Sony will be able to print to it.

Are you saying that none of this is related to the network, but purely a
printer software issue? That all I need to do is a hard installation of the
drivers and from that point on it will take over for me. I'll do it and let
you know. Thanks.

KUDOS to Malke. You derailed my one track mind. I got stuck with trying to
deal with this printer installation as if it was plug-and-play through the
network and did all the "right" things, but they couldn't possible get the
job done. Malke kindly said "DUH!" Thanks.

Well, I wasn't saying "duh" because that would have been rude and I
don't like to be rude. I think the problem was that you were thinking of
the printer as if it were shared locally (attached to a computer)
instead of being connected directly to the network as it is. Enjoy your
Dell 1700n; I like mine. ;-) Thanks for taking the time to let me know
you got things sorted.
