XP Pro -SP 3 restore unsuccessful

Repeatedly get 'unsuccessful ' message to select another date. Have tried 30
some dates. Looking at previous posts-- ie: 073108 System restore not
Working--
Can someone confirm if this is a wise path to follow---

it WILL sort the problem.
