XP Pro doesnt load at startup

When I start my computer it boots ok until it starts
loading the operating system. After the monitor shows the
Win XP Pro screen and fades to black, the system freezes
instead of continuing to load and finishing by displaying
my desktop. I have to use the restart button in order to
restart the boot process. This is an intermittent problem
but is beginning to occur more.

look in the event viewer in case there are related
diagnostic messages. Check the system and application
messages
Type eventvwr.msc from the RUN box.
