Encryption Plus hangs Windows XP at startup

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 on a Dell Latitude D610 laptop owned by my
company. The machine is equipped with PC Guardian's "Encryption Plus" hard
disk encryption software, which is required by my company. The operating
system has worked flawlessly for over 3 years. Today, I attempted to start
the laptop and, as usual, was prompted for my Encryption Plus username and
password. After correctly entering this information, the text "Starting
Driver..." appears in the upper let corner of a black screen. This is
usually the point at which XP begins to load. However, the computer just
hung. No hard drive activity, no Windows logo, nothing. I'm thinking that
Encryption Plus has somehow become corrupted. However, I can't think of a
way to resolve the problem because Encryption Plus won't let the PC boot so I
can perform a re-install or fix the corrupted driver! Any suggestions for
how to get Encryption Plus to fix itself so I can boot the PC? TIA...as I'm
desperate to restore the system to normal operation.

This does not sound like a Windows XP issue.

What does your IT support staff say?
What about the "Encryption Plus" support avenues?

The only way would be to De-crypt the hard drive. It takes about 3-4 hours
to do but your data will be intact. Your sys admin should have the disk
because it requires the Encryption Plus master password in order to work.

Hi Bill,

Encryption systems, by definition, tend to be pretty tamper-resistant.
I'd strongly recommend you contact the IT helpdesk at your employer for
assistance. Random futzing or attempts to re-install Encryption Plus
could cause you to be locked out of the system permanently; or a new
encryption key might be generated which would leave the existing
encrypted data unrecoverable.

If the company mandates using Encryption Plus, they probably
(hopefully?) have contingency plans for this kind of situation.
Corporate customers can have annual maintenance and support agreements
with GuardianEdge (PC Guardian changed their name a few years back).

Probably not the answer you wanted, but I'm sure this is the best way to
go. If the matter is urgent, then you need to really impress the urgency
onto your own support guys.

Hope it helps,
Andrew

You need to contact your company's IT group.

This isn't the place to seem support for that package, and it's *their*
data, not yours; the responsibility is theirs, not yours.

However, if you muck about, the responsibility for compounding the problems
can shift to you - and that won't be good.
