XP License Question

I have a copy of Windows XP RC1. The license agreement is a bit ambiguous,
but it suggests that I may be entitled to purchase an Upgrade copy of XP Pro
because I have XP RC1. Is this true? Does possession of XP RC1 entitle me to
license XP Pro Upgrade instead of the full copy of XP Pro?

Your license to use Windows XP RC1 ended on 10/25/2001, the
day the released version of Windows XP was launched. You need
to purchase Windows XP and perform a "clean install". Your RC1
CD is worthless and you cannot upgrade over it.

No. RC1 was for evaluation and does not confer rights to upgrade. You
need some earlier version of Windows (and NT or Win2000 only upgrade to
Pro, not to Home)

Greetings --

I haven't read the EULA for WinXP Pro RC1 recently, but I do
recall that there was absolutely nothing ambiguous or vague about that
license expiring when the final edition of WinXP was released to the
retail market. This occurred on 25 Oct 2001. So the "license" you
have has been invalid for nearly two years.

To answer the technical question: No, the release candidate
versions of WinXP were _not_ qualifying products for the WinXP Upgrade
CDs. One could use a full retail version of WinXP Pro to perform a
repair installation, if desired, to preserve installed applications
and settings.
