Xp and crystal sound problems

Hi

I am having a few problems with a customers laptop, he has
an IBM ThinkPad 600E and he is running Windows Xp Home,
the only problem is his sound card wont work, ive
downloaded lots of drivers for it now but no joy, when I
try to run the installation it just hangs, but if I
install the drivers instead, it just wont work, the sound
did work before he had XP, the reason that he has XP is
windows 98 just would not load on the the laptop only
Windows 2000 which we cant get anymore and win XP, do you
have any idea of what this could be? as im getting a
little frustrated with this laptop and the customer keep
ringing up?

Windows sets it to:-

Crystal WDM audio codec

The device cannot start (Code 10)

I/O Range ?

I/O Range 0388-038B

I?O Range ?

IRQ ?

DMA ?

DMA ?

Override Configuration 0000

and when ever I set it to something:-

Crystal WDM audio codec

The device cannot find enough free resources that it can
use (code 12)

now I have tried changing all the resources around but
still no joy, I have Evan reloaded XP several times!

if you have any ideas this would be much appreciated

Many thanks

Having the same issue, had searched half of the net and nothing ;)

Dell Optiplex GXa, Windows XP or 2003 (whatever, actually).
"Device cannot start" is as far as I got, using the Crystal drivers...

Please help. Anybody. Somebody out there solved it somehow, right...?
