Wireless issue? DNS issue? MS Update issue?

Hi,

I have two users who connect to my network via Windows VPN in XP PRO.

For some reason, around 12/5/08, their laptops have been having lots of
issues with conencting to the Internet.

They way they have been fixing it is by doing a System Restore to go back to
that date.
Here is the weird part: they can get to websites by using the IP address
but, cannot use the DNS name (example: http://207.46.192.254 will work, but
www.microsoft.com will not work)

Also, if they go to a Starbucks or other free Wifi hotspot, it will work by
using the name resolution.

What baffles me is that if they do the system restore back to 12/4/08,
everything works fine untill like 24 hours later or something.

Could it have been some sort of MS update that is causing this issue?

Has anyone experienced this?
Both users are using DELL laptops with XP PRO.

Yes, but we'd have to know which update(s) were installed on 05 Dec-08. The
Update History section here will tell you:
