Windows XP SP2 IP address changing to 0.0.0.0

Hello

Over the past week I've been having trouble with my XP machine losing some
or all of it's IP addresses. I've seen this on multiple PC's that have
different hardware and drivers.
What's happening, is that I have a NIC set for a static IP, then go through
the Advanced button and add another IP address. I've got a RJ45 cable going
from my NIC to a switch, with no other devices attached to the switch. From
a command prompt I can do a ipconfig /all and I see both IP addresses with
the subnets masks. If I disconnect the RJ45 cable and do a ipconfig /all I
get the expected message saying that media is disconnect.

Now, the interesting part, is that if I wait a minute or two before
connecting the RJ45 cable to the switch, and do a ipconfig /all either one
or both of the ip addresses come back as 0.0.0.0 and I'm not sure why. Once
that happens I have to restart the PC to get the original IP address back.

I'm not sure where to start looking for this, so I was hoping someone else
may have come across this before.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Jason

Why are you trying to assign 2 addresses to the same NIC? That is probably
the problem right there.
