Unable to change IP address

Hi, I've added an old PC to my network. I updated XP Pro/SP 2 to SP 3 & IE 8.
The PC was configured to connect to the Internet via a business network. I
ran Network Connection Wizard with other PCs and printer running, old
settings were maintained. I've run the Wizard three times, can't find any way
to change settings manually. I switched off AV/firewall which might have been
blocking access, no joy.

I searched this site for "IP address configuration", but didn't find
anything which I could follow. I'm modestly capable rather than seriously
advanced.

The PCs and printer connect to a router which connects to a cable modem.

Was the router part of the Business Network? If so you may need to
reconfigure the router. Don't ask me how, I had to have my ISP tech
service step me through it.

No, the router is part of the home network, lots of PCs and laptops have
used it without problems. But contacting my ISP might help.

Oops, I've reconnected my daughter's PC in lieu of the "new" one - won't
connect, I ran the Wizard and get msg that it has the same address as another
on the network. I can't recall this ghappening on previous PC-swapping. Help!

What do you mean that you can't change it manually? Is it not available
on the adapter's TCP/IP properties page?

Are your computers supposed to get IP addresses via DHCP?
If so, check the router's ip address table to get which addresses have been
leased.
Post the results of IPCONFIG/ALL on one of the problem computers.

Under Network adapaters/NVIDIA nForce Networking
Controller/Properties/Configuration, attempting to open Network Manager (from
Network Access Manager) or Network profiles/Properies gets a "page not found"
on C-drive message. Am I looking in the right place? Or is it likely that
something has been deleted? Thanks.

Re DHCP, I don't know, as I've had the same ISP and cable connection for
about 7 years with many resident and visiting PCs/laptops connected, and not
needed to know, I suspect not, but will investigate further.

I went Run/IPCONFIG/ALL on this PC to check what it is, not found. As with
reply to John, I might be missing files. I'll follow up on the other PCs.
Thanks, faustino.

I turned on my daughter's PC to apply forum advice, couldn't run
IPCONFIG/ALL, but discovered that connection is now working. So I don't
understand the problem or how to solve it, but it no longer exists.

Thanks to all posters.
