Windows Media Player Not Finding Internet

R

Ron Hardin

On a cold start (say starting from Total Recorder early in the
morning) Windows Media Player, instead of connecting to the router
and DSL that's been on for weeks, puts up a box

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the
file is located on the Internet, connect to the
Internet. If the file is located a removable storage
card, insert the storage card.

If you click ``Close'' it then connects to the internet and
plays the streaming URL desired.

But it wants you to click on Close.

What's out of adjustment here?

This sounds a bit like my Internet Explorer (or indeed anything else that
wants internet access). After a reboot, opening IE brings up a page not
found error (default page is Google). Just highlighting the URL and hitting
return and it works. Similarly anything that makes the first internet
access attempt after a boot will fail, but works perfectly thereafter.

I haven't got the foggiest idea why though.
