windows mail wants to dial up

I have the same problem--everything is greyed out, "Never dial" is chosen,
and it still wants to dial up! I've tried everything and can't stop it!

Do you have a working broadband connection?
When you open Internet Explorer, does it try to dial?
Do you have any dial-up connections configured in Network Connections?

Tools | Accounts
Select the account and choose Properties.
On the Connection tab uncheck the box to always use yhis connection.

Do this for each account.

I have actually done all that. What helped was to go to Thunderbird and
uncheck some things. Why...who knows?!
