Logon screen says 10 unread mail messages, but there are no unread messages
in any mailboxes or folders.

I don't remember exactly where the setting is in there, don't have it loaded
here, but look around. I think it's in the login section?

Yes. And to just repair the messages count, use the following option:

Open TweakUI > Repair > Select "Repair unread mail count" from the dropdown
listbox., and choose "Repair Now".
