Windows logon displays unread e-mails

Dave

When booting my p.c. to the windows XP logon screen wher you select the user
profile, it shows 3 unread e-mails agianst my user profile. I have
thoroughly checked every folder in Outlook, Outlook Express, MSN Messenger
tec. but there are no unread e-mails.

Is there a registry entry to rest this message?

In case it is related, I had problems with Outlook/MS Word and also Internet
Explorer in the last week which needed a number of dll's re-registering to
fix the problem. Other than latest MS updates including Office SP2, no other
sw has been installed.

Any ideas?

Hi

Download TweakUI from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx and
when installed go to Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI - then go
to Logon>Unread Mail - disable it in the right hand pane.

Otherwise the Unread Mail can be disabled via the Registry - navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Youremailaddress]
- double click on 'MessageCount' - in the right hand pane - and change the
value to 0(Zero).
