Unread mail message on logon screen

There are two user profiles on my pc. Since I installed Office 2003 with
Outlook 2003 the logon to one of these profiles has insisted on displaying
"2 unread messages" as well as the number of programs running. There are no
unread messages in Outlook (or in Outlook Express). Where is this message
coming from, and how do I correct it?

I have read the contents of the links you provide and have - in
desperation - gone into regedit to zero the 'unread mail' count. Lo and
behold, it reappeared the next day and seems to be a permanent feature (not
limited by the 3 day parameter). There are no outstanding messages in
Outlook, Outlook Express and Windows Explorer simply links to Outlook if I
try to access email.

Is there anywhere else the 'unread mail' count can be coming from, or are
there more pointers that I need to zeroise in the registry? I do not want
to eliminate the display - merely to have an accurate count!

Zero stop message shown on Welcome screen but don't disable the
functionnality.

Your can try my script who tells you all you have on the registry, and
permit to (en|dis)able the function. (the current user restriction
don't seems to work on all configuration)

Many thanks.

'Reset' obviously zeroises the value: what do 'open' and 'kill' do? I
don't want to execute these without knowing the effect!

You're wellcome.

Open : launch the corresponding mail software to control mails.

Kill : removes the current value in the key. It can remove an old
reference to a unused mail box. If you erase an used mail box, it will
be automaticaly recreate at next use of your mail software.

All of these function are here to avoid hazardous handling directly in
the registry.
