windows logon screen false unread email message

I am getting false notification of unread mail (outlook express) on the logon
screen where it also tells me I have 1 or 2 or 3 etc programs running. The
irratating message is " You have 1 unread email" I have gone into outlook
and reset all as read several times. I have rebooted and strarted and
stopped outlook. Any ideas?
