Windows is not Viewable!!! Only my Background Pic!!

On my computer only my background picture shows up and nothing else, and I
fell like I got a virus because windows is not visible. The way Im online is
that I pressed Ctrl+Alt+DEL for the Windows task manager, the I clicked on
file, and then clicked on New Task (Run)!!!! So I cant access anyting!! No
itunes, recycle bin, control panel, anything!!

Reboot

hit F8 just before windows loads...
then select safe mode...
if you can get to safe mode and think you have a virus...
then run your virus checker

if you have no virus ...use system restore

I am having the same type of problem Going into safe mode doesn't help, as
it won't load up either. I have to run the task manager like you do if I
want to open any programs. I have been told several things....most popular
being
1) do a repair install
2) do a clean install
3) find a hotfix.

My problem began directly after Windows update performed its task and
re-booted. So I am beginning to think that it has something to do with the
update that was down loaded. If that happens to be the case, a hotfix
should do the job. I am just not sure what the hot fix is as of right now.
I am working on it, as I really don't want to perform a re-installation of
any kind.

We are not the only ones dealing with this same issue. They and I have
posted various times to this site. We are all getting the same type of
answers, but nothing to actually help fix the problem. The answers we get
simply don't or won't work.

I will try to keep you posted on what I find as a solution to this problem.
I have been emailing directly with a couple of other window users who are
also having the same problems.

It would be great if someone here is able to provide us with a solution, but
something tells me that no one here really knows what is happening and how
to solve it.
