Initial screen with users and pics

I don't know what may have happened, all I know is that the initial page
with user names and pics, where I use to click to access, has been replaced
by a small window with user and password.
In start menue, when click log off, instead of asking "switch user?" it
appears a small window asking "are you sure you want to log off?". In other
words, my daughter cant login unless I logoff.
In task manager, there were similar changes.
If I had no firewall or online anti-virus (I do have McAfee security
center), I would say it was a hacker or virus.
I thought it cold be due to those automatic updates. So I restored to a
point I began having such a problem. No success!
What is going on? Help me, please. My system is Windows XP Pro version 2002
Service pack 3. Thanks in advance.

Try going to Control Panel>User Accounts>Change the way Users log on and
off>Choose Fast User Switching

I did what you've said and I have got this window: "A recently installed
program has disabled the welcom screen and fast user switching. To restor
these features, you must uninstall the program. The following file name might
help you identify the program that made the change. GTGina.dll.
I have searched it in the internet and found some references to Lynksys (my
router).
What do you think I should do next ?

You installed software to connect to your wireless and likely installed
everything (complete) and that included something to keep you connected to
the network when you were not actually logged in (so at the logon screen.)
You should uninstall it, do a custom install and not select that.
