Windows File Protection error

P

Peter

Just recently I started to receive this error window:
"Windows File Protection
Files that are required by Windows to run properly have
been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain
stability, Windows must restore the original versions of
these files.
Insert your Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM now"

These seems to have only started since either 1) my last
set on Windows security patches, 2) my last Zone Alarm
update or 3) running Spy Assasin.

Is there a way to 1) work out what files this relates to
and 2) FIX IT!!!

I find if I leave my XP CD in the drive it's fine but
obviously want to know what is causing this.

Thanks

Hi Peter,

did you or anyone else (or any tool) remove any trusted certificates from
your PC? If you open IE and go to Internet Options > Content > Certificates
Trusted Root Certificates

are there certificates listed?

Hello Peter,
Look at the system event log for Windows File Protection events.
In those events it should list the file name which is being replaced.
Thanks,

Mike, there are a large number of certificates listed
under the Trusted Root page.
Thanks
