Windows Explorer is opening video-files in background

My Windows Explorer always opens video-files mit the
extension *.avi in background and is causing 3 problems.
First, i can't delete this file because of write
protection, because Explorer opened it in background.
Secound, sometimes my Explorer is crashing, because of an
bad video file.
And third, i thing this is also the problem ob my memory
overflow by Windows Explorer, when it's trying to open an
file in background and could not open it or it's causing a
problem.
Any guesses, how to solve this issue?

Explorer isn't opening it, it's reading it. .Avi files that are Divx video
file get read by explorer for information about the file when you access the
file, either by highlighting it or trying to open it. To delete the file,
just highlight it and wait for explorer to read it. Depending on the file
size it can take several minutes. Usually you see the hard drive light
blinking or you hear the drive working. When it's done the file will delete.

First, explorer should not be opening avi files. The default for avi files
is Windows Media Player, and it is a video clip.

Which AVI files are trying to play?

have you run a virus check lately?
