You can manually import mail folders from Windows Mail into Windows Live Mail.
In Windows Live Mail: File, Import, Messages, Windows Mail.

Press the Alt key which will give you a one shot use of the File menu.
I prefer that method because most of the time I don't need to see the File
menu, so it gives me more space for the messages.
You can also turn on the File menu bar permanently. If interested in that
option, post in the Windows Live Mail newsgroup:

or via your news reader: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

File is on your " menu bar " which is hidden.
To keep it visible and stay put :
( You must have an Organize button at the top ), click it > click Layout >
click Menu Bar from the pop-up menu.
Can you see File button now ?

May be a dumb question but since you haven't stated what you've tried . . .
Have you shut down, powered off, and restarted your computer? Sometimes an
"out of memory message" will popup when an update occurs that requires a
reboot that didn't happen automatically.

Try compacting and repairing the database. See www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

If that doesn't work, then rename the Windows Mail directory
(C:\USERS\[YOURUSERNAME}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail) and it should
start after that and you can then import the messages from the old
directory.
