Win2K SP4 Install Abort Problem

Help with Win 2K upgrade to SP4. The install program (from Microsoft
download) runs into a problem of connectivity and aborts.

Running Win 2K SP3. Attempting to install "Win2k SP4 Express Install for
end users" from Microsoft download site using express download/install for a
single machine.. All works fine for the download portion. Install program
starts and during the test for configuration phase I get this error message.
"Unable to connect to metabase" I click OK and the following error message
is displayed.
Setup failed to remove ISM.DLL script mappings.
Service Pack 4 setup will abort.
Clicked OK.
I then received the following error message.
"One or more requested network protocols did not connect successfully.
IPX/SPX or compatible CP reported error 733. Your computer and remote
computer could not agree on PPP control protocols,"

Tried contacting Microsoft with no results because I was never able to talk
to Microsoft.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Henry

Followed your suggestion and downloaded network version of SP4 (130Mb).
Ran the installation and still get install abort while on what appears to be
the last phase of the install.
Error msg: Unable to connect to metabase.
I click OK and the whole install process quits.

Any additional help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Henry

Hi again

- Are you running any Antivirus Application? If so, be sure to have it shut
down befor you start the Installation

- What Windows 2000 are you running? The Pro Edition or the Server?

- Have you tried to install it in Safe Mode yet?

See if any of this helps. Regards,

Fabio

I uninstalled Norton so I was sure I didn't have an antivirus conflict
I am running Win 2000 Pro
No I haven't tried to install SP4 in Safe Mode
I will try the safe mode and get back to you.
Cheers,
Henry
