Win2K Server Pro Installation Problems

Thanks in advance.

I am running a Dell Poweredge 2400 with Windows 2000 server pro. This
is a new install on older hardware. Everything ran fine, until I
installed all the Microsoft service packs, and McAfee antivirus. All
of a sudden the shares that I had (data drive) were no longer usable
by users. Then I couldn't get the McAfee to run. After a while I
tried to go into Computer Management (to manipulate user info) and I
was not able to open it. The box had only been build for a day or so
(worked perfectly) and hooked up to the network for about 3 hours
before the trouble started. I am pretty sure that it didn't get
infected with anything. I ran stinger and an adware program against
it, and our IDS didn't pick up anything either.

I decided that I would just rebuild the box since there was no data on
it. When I went through the install, after a lot of files have been
transferred, and setup tries to REboot from the HD to enter GUI mode
it says that I don't have any hard drives to proceed. During the
bootup process I get a POST operation successful, and BIOS installed
successfully indicating that both hard drives (containers) are fine
and recognized, and I can still boot into the OS. So basically I
can't perform an install. When I do try to reboot from a cd (and go
through the above) I will get a blue screen with the following error:
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. I am able to boot into WIN2K, with the
default set at Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Setup, instead of just
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mark

Did you do the first install yourself? Depending on what disk controller
you use, you might need to press F6 just after setup starts, in order to
insert a floppy with the correct disk controller drivers, else you get this
0x7B STOP error. If you use the built in PERC 2Si RAID controller, your
driver also needs to correspond with the controller BIOS version.

Best regards
