Windows looping install

I'm trying to re-nstall windows 2000 on a system. The hard drive's partitions
have been deleted and reformed while windows was doing the install. However
the install seems to hang up. Here is what was done.

1. Ran DBAN (from the eraser CD) to wipe the hard drive

2. Inserted Win2K-SP2 CD and rebooted from the CD. Win 2000 setup started
automatically

3. Welcome to Setup screen came up
3a. Pressed enter to install win2k
3b. Pressed C to continue past warning
3c. Press F8 to agree to license
3d. Pressed Enter to install in unpartitioned space
3e. Pressed Enter to use the NTFS file system

4. Waited for setup to format hard drive. After formatting, Setup copied
some files and then rebooted.

5. Windows booted to the Windows 2000 setup wizard
5a. Waited while Setup ran a screen that "detects and installs devices such
as your keyboard and mouse"
(file://h:/cavan/win2k/5-Detect_device.JPG)

6. Regional settings page came up
6a. Kept defaults and clicked Next
(file://h:/cavan/win2k/6-Regional_Settings.JPG)

7. Personalize Your Software page came up
7a. Entered name/company and clicked Next
(file://h:/cavan/win2k/7-Personalize.JPG)

8. Product Key page came up
8a. Entered the Product Key and clicked Next
(file://h:/cavan/win2k/8-Product_Key.JPG)

9. Computer name page came up
9a. Kept the default computer name and entered an Admin password and clicked
Next
(file://h:/cavan/win2k/9-Password.JPG)

10. Date/Time page came up
10a. Reset Date/Time to Central time and kept all other defaults, and
clicked Next.
(file://h:/cavan/win2k/10-date_time.JPG)

11. Installing networking components page came up
11a. Networking Settings page came up
11b. Chose Typical Settings and clicked Next
(file://h:/cavan/win2k/11-Install_networking.JPG)

12. Workgroup page came up
12a. Chose "Not on a network" and clicked Next
(file://h:/cavan/win2k/12-workgroup.JPG)

13. Installing components page came up
13a. Partway through the installation, the system rebooted
13b. After the reboot the computer was back to the setup wizard in #5 above.
(file://h:/cavan/win2k/13-Installing.avi)

After several rounds of going through 5-13 and ending back up at 5, I gave up.

*** here was some advice I was given.

After the last reboot (13a), take out the CD before it gets a chance to
reboot (if you already haven't). In the CMOS, you can set the boot device
order. Move the CD option below the hard drive device and try that.

*** the results of this advice.

I removed the CD and rebooted.
A message popped up during reboot that Setup is being restarted.
Then a dialog asks me to insert the CD.
After I insert the CD and click OK, it goes back to the Windows 2000 setup
wizard, and "detects and installs devices such as your keyboard and mouse".
Back into the loop.

Any ideas of what would be causing this problem? The system has had windows
2000 on it before. The purpose was to clean up the system and donate it.

Thanks for the help

Setup shouldn't automatically reboot. It should end with a screen
telling you to remove the CD before clicking the button to reboot.

The links you posted refer to files on your local computer, which no
one can access.

You must have some bad hardware, RAM or incorrectly identified hardware
resulting in incorrect driver installation. Try removing all non-essential
hardware then try again.
