Okay here is my problem.... When i click on windows mail in the start menu i
get a error box that says

"Contacts failed to load"

i click ok, then the error:

"Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to initialize
the Windows Contacts. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is
full. (0x8004104E)"

again i click ok, then the error:

"Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized."

What do I need to do to fix this???

Just thought of this...if we can't get to our e-mail, how are we supposed to
find answers to our problems. They will not be emailed to us!

How exactly are you trying to start Windows Mail. Please describe
what you are doing in detail?

Are you using Microsoft Office 2000?

Hope this helps.

First off im gunna come out and say that I know nothing about windows vista
and probably wont personally be using it until may/june.

The person that i am doing the work for works for a compnay that uses
outlook 2000. She installed that onto the system. We had to move the
microsoft address book .dll files in order for that to work. They were copied
and pasted so they are still in the original location. That works with the
exception that every time you open outlook it prompts you that you need to
confgure the settings again (but it prompts you that you can use the currnet
settings that you specified last time you opened the program).

Could that be the reason that she cant open vista... excuse me windows mail???

There is a way around Mail 7 not opening... But the rub is that you have to
have Administrator Rights...

Right Click on the Mail 7 shortcut and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR...

Another window will open "SELECT ALLOW Unidentified Publsher"
and your mail should open just fine...

I've been using Vista for 3 months now, I've used the e-mail without any
problem. This morning when I tried to open it, error messages just like you
guys had suddenly popped-up. Help, I've read all the threads and nothing
works.

"Doctor, it hurts someplace, fix it!"

Darn, my crystal ball is getting cloudy again...

Copy the complete error message (right-click, copy), and paste
it into a reply here.

This problem may be due to interference from your antivirus program.
Read http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
If you have McAfee or Norton antivirus, uninstall it. Reboot and try
Windows Mail again. Once you get your email working properly,
download and install a less intrusive antivirus program such as the
free Avast. Whichever antivirus program you keep, be sure to
disable its email scanning option.

Is this a joke? I install Vista and come up with the same "MSOE.DLL could not
be installed" and it becomes my obligation to fix Microsofts problem? So for
a week I can't get or send any emails and microsoft doesn't have a fix for
there problem.

If antivirus software is causing the problem, then its not Microsoft's
fault. They didn't write the operating system around the antivirus
software. They wrote it without antivirus software. If your computer
manufacturer put antivirus software on your computer and its broken now
because of it, that is not Microsoft's fault.

No joke. For some reason Windows Mail is very sensitive to
interference from certain antivirus programs. Besides changing
your antivirus program, you have two other choices:

1. Try a different email program, like Thunderbird.
2. Wait. Later this month Microsoft is coming out with an
improved replacement email program, Windows Live Mail.

I'm having the same problem and have inquired about this issue before, but
no one has resolved it. Vista is a pain in more ways than just this--like
all the software it's not compatible with.

I used to have Millenium and it ran like a dream. I am so sorry that I ever
got Vista.

HP and others shipped with Norton & Vista loaded. I spent awhile with
Symantec upgrading to Norton 2007.1. They shipped 2007 which is INCOMPATIBLE
with Vista. It took hours to get this figured out and fixed.

All I want is to remove Windows Mail as the default mail program (done) and
enabling gmail (not quite done, but I'll get it). MS is still a f***ing
bully.

Gmail is not an email program, so how do you plan to make
it the default email program? I don't think it can be done.

If you don't like WM, you can use POP Gmail with WLM or
Thunderbird.
