Vista Service Pk1 and Vista's Mail

Vista Mail

I've been using Vista mail for the last 4 months. After today's update >UGH<
I can no longer use it. I get the following error messages

1) C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\wab32res.dll is either not designed
to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again
using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or
the software vendor for support

THEN I click ok and the next message is

2) Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to
initialize the
Windows Contacts. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full
(0x8000FFFF)

BTW, I have 3gig of RAM. Ok so I click OK again and the final error message
pops up is

3) Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be
initialized.

I've read all about uninstalling the virus software but in my case I've been
operating the mail client for the last 4 months until this update

Problems in Windows Mail caused by antivirus software often take
months to show up. What antivirus programs do you have?

McAfee is my antivirus. But this happened after the Svc Pk 1 update today. It
also wiped out my audio driver that I'm currently downloading and
reinstalling. This has been a nightmare since about 9:30am

Most versions of the McAfee antivirus software tend to cause various
problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately, and need to
uninstalled, not just disabled, to stop them from causing problems.

However, Vista SP1 looks more likely as the cause of this problem,
so you might check whether you can uninstall it. If this helps, be sure
to tell Microsoft at this web site:

<https://feedback.windowsvista.micro...tp://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_vista_master>

Don't expect an answer, but you might get them to do more testing
on Vista SP1 if you include enough detail on a description of your
system.

Thanks so much for your replies. I did uninstall the update and my Mail is
working again. I will report this as you suggested

These types of error messages typically happen when you have
an old version of Outlook installed. Outlook versions older than
2003 do not work well under Vista. Outlook 2000 frequently
causes the wab32res.dll error.

This is not a direct solution to the problem, but something to try.

1. Use Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\System
Copy wab32.dll and wab32res.dll to C:\Windows\System32

2. If that doesn't work, try using Thunderbird at least until you find
a permanent solution. Vista Mail address book did not work for me after
SP1 and I couldn't find the problem. I'm now using Thunderbird without
problems. Inport your address book using the CSV format. At least you
will be functional.
