Winmail could not be started.????

Hello everybody,

Since a day or two I keep getting an errormessage or two when starting
Windows Vista Mail.

First I get the errormessage: "Contacts failed to load". When clicking "OK",
I get another one: "Winmail could not be started. Application unabled to
initialize contacts. You are out of memory or your hard disk is full.
0x8000ffff"
Then the final message comes: "MSOE.DLL could not be initialized"

I wonder what's going on? I just set up a pop account I created from
gawab.com. Everything seemed to be working fine for about a week. Then Vista
downloaded and installed a bunch of updates (about 70) and then winmail
stopped working.

Anybody else had this problem and possibly has found a cure?

Please, help me out here ;)

Update:

Am using Avira AntiVir Personal Edition (Free) and can't find options to
turn off the e-mail scanning.... However, I remember installing it and
turning off scanning of e-mail. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Avira, and I don't think any of the other
regular responders here are either.
I suggest you uninstall it, then reinstall, but watch for an option for 'custom'
install. Many antivirus products will allow you to unselect certain modules
during the install process.

or is vista just as crappy as the commercials claim? I need this for my job
and I'm getting nowhere.

I had the same problem
"Windows Mail ould not be started. Unable to initialize contacts. Out of
memory or full (ox*000FFF)", because "MSOE.DLL could not be initialized".

I disabled Norton Antivirus and tried to open Windows Live Mail (made it the
default program). Won't open as "Contcts failed to load. Windows LIve Mail is
incorrectly configured, please reinstall.

So, I uninstalled Live and reinstalled it (with Norton disabled), and got
the same message.

Please note the problem started when the internal hard drive I keep the data
(and Contacts and Favourites) on, as opposed to the internal hard drive I
keep the programs on, died. I copied all data to the external hard drive (the
backup) prior to the demise of the data hard drive. I then copied the
Contents and Favorites folders back to the living internal harddrive (the one
with the programs). Further, note that the copied folders have ordinary icons
when copied back into the internal program hard drive. I suspect the Mail
program simply do not recognise the Contacts folder as the approprite one to
go to (the Favorites do not show up on Internet Explorer either - a related
issue). The question probably is, how can I get the programs to find the
related folders?

Cheers

Albert

The newsgroup to which you posted is dedicated to supporting the
Windows Mail program. You will get more help by posting that issue
in the Windows Live Mail newsgroup:
