In Windows XP how can I get rid of the WELCOME screen in which you have
to "Click on user name to begin", selecting an account. I had it gone
but think it came back after installing Service Pack 2.

Thanks, TonyL

By way of follow-up to this subject - can the "Welcome" be "modified", say to
read "Welcome, Bill!"?

Hi "the creator",

I tried your TweakUI suggestion but it apparently requires setting a password
and that's more trouble than I had in mind. I had just hoped to simpy add-on the
name using the same XP font!

Thanks Patti,

That gets rid of the "Welcome" screen and the requirement to click on
user, BUT,
It brings me to a "Windows is starting up" page that just locks up
there. What now ?????

Hi Bill,

Nope, No Password needed. Leave it blank. I use the Windows XP Login
Screen. If you use the Classic Login Screen, just click OK.

If using the XP Login Screen, all you need do, is to click on your
display picture to access the Desktop.

Oh, I think you clicked down, one too many. I don't bother with using
the Autologon, just Logon. By checking all 3 below:
Parse Autoexec.bat at logon
Show "ASPNET" on Welcome Screen
Show "Bill" on Welcome Screen

ASPNET is never shown on the Welcome Screen, because it is hidden.

By checking all 3 creates a Stop condition for Windows. It will stay on
the screen, until you click on your image to continue login. For slow
computers, this helps with the display of all Startup Icons in the
Notification area. I clicked when I hear the 3 ½" floppy drive being
accessed. I get to see all the Startup icons.

After TweakUi is installed, load it and go down to Logon. Make sur

TonyL still has a problem getting rid of the Welcome Screen. Usin
Patti's suggestion just brought on a lock up on "Windows is startin
up" Screen.

HELP !!

Thanks, Tony

Hi TonyL,

You are going to see the Welcome always, if there is more than one User
ID on the computer. And it stops at the Welcome Screen, for you to choose
which one to enter.

If you just have one User ID, use TweakUi. TweakUi download is located
on the Right-side of the screen using this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Make sure that ASP.NET is not checked after you click on Logon.

Click on the User ID Picture after clicking Start. Make sure that the
Guest Account is off. And undo Patti's suggestions, if you can.

Report back. If it works, you will see the Welcome Screen, but it should
continue on by itself, without you clicking anything.
