Help - Logon Screen Changed !

Hi

Something strange keeps happening to my PC.

I have XP Pro installed, set up as a workgroup rather than a domain,
and normally have the windows welcome screen and graphical logon
appear.

Suddenly, after running windows update last week, this changed to the
the 'classical' logon prompt, and my welcome screen had vanished! Even
though in control panel it still said use the welcome screen. Toggling
this off and back on made no difference.

The only way I could get rid back was to restore from a ghost backup,
but then I started getting a few other glitches, so decided to do a
clean install on a new partition.

I installed XP, SP2, ran windows update, and everything was fine.

I then started installing some programs, (Divx and Alcohol 120%) and
after a reboot, the welcome screen had disappeared again !!!!

Any suggestions on how to get this back would be most welcome.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

I am now convinced that the problem is down to bad memory. I had quite
recently upped the memory, I stuck the old config in, and it seems to
be stable now.

Not sure why that should be though.
