Welcome screen doesn't appear

I went into the user account screen and checked 'Use the Welcome screen', but
the standard login page still appears at startup. I don't know what account
I'm using when I sign in. What could be preventing the welcome screen from
appearing?

you have to create password for that user.

to create password go to control panel -> then double click on "user
accounts" -> select the user you want to create password.

if problem still exists
please post how many user accounts are there, password created or not.

Thanks for the reply.

I've never had to create a password for a user account for the Welcome page
to appear in the past. I have one administrator account, one limited account
and one guest account.

You may need to do this. Click on Start - Run and type in 'control
userpasswords2' and click on ok. In the window that opens make sure a
checkmark is next to the line that says "Users must enter a user name
and password to use this computer." Then click on ok.

I looked and that check box is selected.
