Windows Welcome screen help

Roger

Hi All,

Could you please assist. I run XP Pro and on boot up I have always had the
full screen Welcome window,(blue) but it has now changed to half screen
welcome on left, and on right half showing my name etc which has to be
clicked on to open up. I cannot remember how to get back to the full screen
Welcome, on loading as it has been some time.

Hope you can prompt my memory

Regards Roger

Using TweakUI will be easier to bypass the logon screen, see the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

On the right hand side of the web page and select TweakUI.exe

Once you have downloaded it, install it and then run the application. In the
TweakUI main window click the + (plus) sign next to the Logon option and
then click 'Autologon' In the auto logon window put a tick in the box marked
'log on automatically at system startup' then click OK. Now restart your PC
and you should boot straight to the desktop.

I have the same issue. Isn't there a way from within WindowsXP to do this? I
really don't want to download somebody else's program to do this.

Tweak UI is from Microsoft, among the powertoys its the most widely used not
only for the logon screen issue.

Another way to bypass the logon screen:
Start > Run, type "control userpasswords2" (without quotes) > OK . Users tab
Click to uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer"

This might do it: Look in the Control Panel, User Accounts, "Change the
way users log on or off".

I actually did try that, but when I deselect use welcome screen I get the
Windows Log On screen. I don't want that; I want to turn on the computer and
see my desktop. Now, Rey suggested Run/control userpasswords2, which brought
me to the screen I was looking for (thank you, Rey), but couldn't find
through Control Panel/User Accounts. I deselected "user must enter user name
and password" which opened a new window, prompting me to enter an
administrater password. As I do not want to use a password I left it blank.
OK, so now I have a new problem; upon start up a window opens up prompting me
for the administrater password, which I did not want to use. So now I can't
get into Windows. I'm stuck on the logon screen with an account restriction
message.

I've found my way. Figured out a working user name/password combo. Thanks for
your help Rey and Elmo.
