VNC Remote or Use XP Remote to Win98SE

I am trying to remote from my WinXP Pro machine to a Win98E machine. I
tried VNC and I can connect but have no keyboard or mouse control, just
view. Checked settings and View Only is not checked.

Both machines use Comcast high speed cable for Internet access.

The WinXP machine which is trying to do the remote control is behind a
Netgear Router. I tried to directly connect to the cable modem and same
situation of no keyboard or mouse.

I did read that you can use the WinXP remote and the Win98SE machine would
have to download it and try it.

Any suggestions on what I should do or other app to use.

Thanks,
Bob

Wherever you read that you could use Remote Desktop to control a Win98SE
machine is wrong.

The downloadable component is the client end--so Win98SE can see an XP
machine, not vice versa.

VNC should work--have you tried UltraVNC?--possibly a reinstall or change to
a different version might do the trick for you.

I tried RealVNC and another version I found. Both did the same thing with
no keyboard / mouse.

Thanks,

Glad to hear it. It'd be interesting to know what it is about that machine
that caused the issue--I've run VNC on more than two dozen assorted bits of
hardware and never run into that one.
