Problem Using Netmeeting Remote Desktop

Hello.

My problem. I have 1 computer running Win98SE that is the client. I
have another computer running WinXP Pro that is the host (remote). The
Win98SE is trying to control the desktop of the WinXP Pro machine.
WinXP is running Netmeeting remote desktop and has it running. When
the Win98 machine tries to connect using Netmeeting via a call using IP
address, the Win98 machine has a pop up box asking: username, password,
domain. When the WinXP machine starts normally, there is no required
log in or password. There is an administrator account, the default
account, whose name is Compaq. When running a set command on the Win
XP machine, i get: Computername COMPAQ, Username Compaq_Owner,
Userdomain COMPAQ. My problem=I cannot get past the popup box on the
Win98 machine asking username, password, domain.

Any ideas? Please help. Thank you.

NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (RDS) is not the same nor is it compatible
with Remote Desktop. You can download a Remote Desktop client for the Win
98SE machine from...

Al,

I appreciate the 2 are different but I am trying to connect 2 machines
with Netmeeting. The XP machine is running Netmeeting 3.01 build
5.1.2600.2180. The Win98SE machine is running 3.01 build 4.4.3396.
Any ideas on getting Netmeeting to connect?

Oppsss... I misread your post. Sorry...

Its been a long long long time since I used RDS. So have you seen this
article?

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;233175

If I remember right you needed TCP Port 1503 open on any firewall the PCs
where behind. You also might post to the
microsoft.public.internet.netmeeting news group for help... The NetMeeting
Resource Kit might also be of some help...

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/NetMeeting/Corp/reskit/default.asp

Why use RDS when you have Remote Desktop available or at the very least use
UltraVNC? RDS is extremely slow as far as I remember, even slower than
UltraVNC. Remote Desktop is the fastest by far.

Hi Al.

Being a computer user for a LONG time, HERE is the solution: the
Win98SE machine kept asking for username, password for the WinXP
machine and it wouldn't accept the existing administrator account
information as responses to the log on questions so, on a hunch, I set
up a new administrator account with a password on the WinXP machine and
VIOLA, success. Thanks for your help and input!
