Virtual computing question...

Mike

First off, why is there no microsoft group for windows 7?
Secondly, and my question is windows 7 based, I want to create an
image of my old XP computer & install it on my Windows 7 computer, so
it will run under virtual PC.
Is this possible?

Microsoft's decision was to support Windows 7 only through a web forum.
No usenet groups. There is an unoffical usenet group called

alt.windows7.general

No usenet groups.

You know of an official decision on this point? Or are you making
assumptions based on the fact that there is no group yet?

I'd say its pretty damn official at this point, I mean, Windows 7 has
been out for how many months and STILL no news group? I think its safe
to say MS is giving up on newsgroups and moving to forums.

There is no reason why it wouldn't be, if you mean the operating system when
you say 'old XP computer' and as long as you have VPC installed.

It is an assumption. Do you have better information?

Strange - the original message from +Bob+ did not appear in my newsreader -
but Nil's respons did.

In fact - several responses did not appear for me, obviously...

Oh... I see +Bob+ requested no archival... (How unfortunate it received
several responses without such requests now. *grin*) Don't know why I did
not see "milt" though. *shrug*

"Note: The author of this message requested that it not be archived. This

Although there may/may not have been official word from Microsoft, it is
painfully obvious the intention is to attempt (at least) to move towards
web-based forums. Perhaps in a hope that what happened almost immediately
in the Vista groups (mostly because the setup for them was practically a
default in Windows Vista, I think) and still is happening (spam, people that
have no purpose there, at least not the intended purpose of said groups,
etc) might be a bit better controlled. Perhaps just moving the way
everything else has moved - away from the basic newsgroups that have been
around a *long* time and priven themselves quite reliable to something more
modern and natural/comfortable to the 'share everything, all the time'
generation?

there is software available to create a VXD ( believe it is called) which can then be loaded into XP mode of W7.

you would need to BING/GOOGLE for it , the name does not come to mind.

so far as W7 groups.
apparently ms has decided to go with WEB groups and not NNTP groups.
there is software in beta to allow the reading of WEB groups in NNTP news reader.
called NNTP BRIDGE.
