I have a laptop computer with XP/SP2 that takes over 4 minutes to complete
the shutdown.
The logging of and the saving settings portion takes less than 30 seconds.
Then the "Windows is shutting down" screen stays for 3 minutes and 40
seconds with a lot of hard drive activity. Then a clean shut down.
I suspect a background file is the cause, but how had I determine what
process could be doing this.
This is a backup computer and does not have a lot of software installed.
I know that the following background programs are operating:
AVG Pro
MS Antispyware
MS wireless card (access point is filtered for this MAC address)
MS firewall
I don't have any screen savers, or other known utilities running.
It checks to be free of virus and spyware. Both built-in checks and web
service checks.
With the wireless access card removed, the shutdown time is the same.
Any tips to reduce this time would be appreciated.
