My Toshiba Laptop with XP has problems during shutdown.

It takes about 5 minutes to shutdown after shutdown is pressed.

DLL Initialization failed message appears on pressing the shutdown button.

2 files are creating this problems.

1.MSEQLCHK.EXE DLL initialization failed because windows is shutting down
message wimdow appears.
2.OSKLEDLG.EXE DLL initialization failed because windows is shutting down
message wimdow appears.

As soon as these 2 error message window finish in the background , windows
shuts down.

I located these 2 files in C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch

I deleted these 2 files , shutdown the laptop and restarted windows.

Again these files are present in the directory and hence could not solve the
problem.

Please help me to make my laptop bug-free!!!!!!

is that the only directory they show up in??
Google Search found nothing!!!

nothing like that in my directory!!
everything has "pf" file extension!!
Like this: RASAUTOU.EXE-18B88A68.pf

check for viruses etc.

G

Yes , that is the only directory.

Even these files have the same extension.

MSLEQCHK.EXE-06FD3039.pf
OSKLEDLG.EXE-08689E01.pf

what are these pf files ?

This could be a virus.
Problem started when I downloaded some unsignatured Active-X file and run
that file to download from a web-site.

How do I remove them ? Norton is not recognising these *.pf files as
problematic !!!

Please look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Warning and Error Reports over the last 2 days use and post copies here.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body
of the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error
Report complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the
first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Prefetch folder is like a cache of system files that are fed to Windows XP
at startup. This theoretically allows the system to boot faster, but over
time the prefetch cache gets bloated with unnecessary files that tend to
slow things down. It is quite safe to delete the contents of the prefetch
folder -but leave the folder itself alone. You will find that the system
will take a little longer to boot the first few times you start it as the
cache repopulates with system files-once done the boot speed should be
optimal. The layout ini file is also safe to delete. Don't go deleting the
cache to often because it will never get optomised that way-every few months
ought to be fine.

I tried this microsoft and Prefech cleaner tool.
Not helped.

This problem is happening because of some aplication which is trying to
initialize these pf files.
It fails to initialize and hence during shutdown it causes problems.

If I could find out which aplication is trying to start these pf files , I
can re-install them or remove from my compueter.

I am not able to find any process or tasks running in Task Manager
corresponding to these.

How do I know which aplication is responsible for this ?
If there is some method or solution by this way , Plz let me know.

Thanks,
Narayan

If it's a startup file/program, Perform a "Clean Boot" by disabling everyting
under Startup in/using Msconfig.
start>run>msconfig

Re-enable one by one until problem re-occurs!!

That's what I did with a very similar problem.

The you will know what program is stating the "pf" file.

Hi,
This seems to be working. We r in the right direction.

I am trying.

I disabled everything , problem not found.

I am enabling one by one and trying to see the problem
It is taking time. I will inform you once I am done.

What I should do when I find the particular aplication causing this problem.

Thanks,
Narayan

You might let me know of any out of the ordinary programs installed!!

The program that I had problem with was some WebSearch email program or
add-on.

Hi,

Even I have the same program installed.
MyWebSearch Email Plugin C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\MWSOEMON.EXE
LOcation : Common Startup and Startup
What should I do with these files ?

This could be the reason But I am not convinced.
Because while I was trying to change MSCONFIG startup , this problem
was not consistently re-produced with any particular service. This used to
happen
randomly on enabling many other files also.

Till now I am not able to re-produce the problem by enabling one-by-one.

Please let me know next steps.

Presently, I have enabled only few requiered start-up items and kept all
others disabled. Is it ok ? Anyway i am out of problems now , but it may
re-appear again in future. So still some more work is required.

I have one more problem associated with it.

My mouse pointer is blinking ( as if it is busy ) even if it is not busy.
This started along with the shutdown problem. Now even after the shutdown is
happening without any problem , I have this other problem ON.

Can I do something about this also ?

Shall I remove the WebEmail Plug In program and try for other things ???

Thanks,
Narayan

I don't think that this Websearch program has naything to do with the other
"pf" files, that you originally had problem with!!

Th WebSearch program actually wa in Add/Remove programs in Control Panel and
can be removed that!!! OR for Temporary puposes, you could just deelete them
from Both Startup folders ( LOcation : Common Startup and Startup)!!

As far as the mouse behavior, I don't know!!

Lost track (don't understand) of what you're saying here!!
Now even after the shutdown is happening without any problem , I have this
other problem ON.

Keep working with Msconfig!!!!
Does the "pf" files still appear in the Prefetch folder?
Does these files appear in Task Manger as running processes?

This file MWSOEMON.EXE is controversial. Most favour removal.
