shutdown errors

The following errors happened to my computer at shutdown.

Explorer.exe application error :
"... Referenced memory .... could not be read..."

dwwin.exe dll initialization failed.
dhcpg32.dll application error.
communicator.exe application error.

Repeatedly clicking OK will close the error message box and windows will
eventually shutdown.

I also ran VirusScan and at one point, the screen flashed violently and
froze.

Can anyone please help?

there is a correlation
with the explorer and
the registry.

so what it sounds to me
is that when your pc is trying
to shut down, it is having difficulty
with updating the registry.

if it cannot write to the
registry then it is likely
on a trajectory for a crash.

another symptom for the
above is that you will also
experience an issue when
starting windows as a result
of the failure to write to the
registry during the previous
windows shut down.

what i suggest is to disable
your a.v.'s,

then initiate a chkdsk on
your partitions/drives, and

then run this:

afterwards you can install
a program called pagedfrg
from microsoft.com

Is the Windows XP SP3 update installed?

Please post complete copies of the Error Reports from Event Viewer.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

What anti-virus and anti-spyware software is installed.

How long has the problem existed?

Hope this helps.
