svchost.exe at shutdown

Jim Richards

This is the same problem as Jordy's except mine occurs at shutdown while
hers occured at startup.
Using XP Pro w/SP2. When I shutdown the PC I get this error message:

svchost.exe Application Error
The instruction at 0x009ccffb referenced memory at 0x00a23340. The memory
could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program.

If I do nothing and just wait a few seconds it will go ahead and shut off
the PC but I don't know what I have lost because the memory could not be
written.

My TuffTestPro says all memory locations ( 1GB) are just fine and I ran the
tests several times.

If anyone could point me in the right direction to clean this up, I would
surely appreciate it. TIA, Jim.

i think one of the solutions
is to find that file and rename it
with any extension like .bak

then windows will rebuild that
file and possibly resolve your issue.

if the above doesn't work
here is a link with another method:

http://windowssecrets.com/comp/070621#story1

and if the above doesn't work,
you can search the file name
and find a multitude of other
resolutions like here:

Thank yoou for your suggestions. I have checked all of the links you
provided and I still have the problem. Could ypu explain, in easy to
understand language, what you mean by: "i think one of the solutions is to
find that file and rename it with any extension like .bak". For instance,
how do I go about finding "that file" because there are many svchost.exe
running on my machine? Jim
