Using WMP9 and portable MP3 players

The one question no one can answer for me is: can I use
my existing Windows Media Player (version 9) to transfer
songs to my mp3 player and manage my music. I use Media
Player now and I like it and I want to keep all my music -
whether burning it to a CD, playing it on my computer or
transferring songs to a portable mp3 player - all on one
program.

If I purchased a Rio player, do I have to load the Rio
music manager software on my computer? On the Windows
website, it lists drivers available for Rio players. Are
these used to transfer music from Media Player to a Rio
player?

I'd like to buy a portable player but not load the
included software they all come with. I just want to hook
up my usb cable and transfer tracks using Media Player

As long as WMP has a plug-in for your player, then you should not have to
install the Rio software.
