USERINIT.exe application error

Phil

Windows won't start. Get the msg. "Userinit.exe
application error. The application failed to initialize
properly (0x0000142) Click OK to terminate application."
This after downloading the latest W2K updates and changing
the authority of all the users via Services.msc. Thanks
for any help!

try copying a known good userinit.exe from a working win2k
machine

(the file lives in %systemroot%\system32 and may also be in
%systemroot%\ServicePackFiles\i386)

try service packing in safe mode.
