USB2 problem

Hi Everyone,

I'm using windows XP professional 2002 with no service pack.In control
panel under device manager i found a yellow exclamation mark beside Intel(R)
82801EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller 24DD when i checked it's properties it
gave me: Device Status Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this
hardware (code 37)

When i tried to update it,it gave me the wizard could not find a better
match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed.

My question is how to fix this problem and from where i can get the update
since it's causing a problem with my HP PSC all in one which preventing me
from printing or scanning.

The motherboard Gigabyte P4 Titan Series, 865PE, GA-8IPE1000 series

Thanks for your help.

Did you go to the motherboard site and see if they have the drivers for your
motherboard?
You could do a search on google with "82801EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller
24DD "
lots of hits for drivers.

AFAIK XP requires at least SP2 for USB 2 functionality.

Okay, have identical motherboard except its the Pro series instead.
Immediately after XP Home installation (its with SP1), I install the drivers
from the motherboard's driver CD. There should be a separate entity for
installation of the USB 2.0 driver. This is installed after the initial
installation of the mobo drivers and reboot. Jus slide in the mobo driver
CD, it will verify mobo driver installation. If okay, it will present the
USB 2.0 driver install option. I also have a HP PSC which works fine under
these conditions. The current drivers (5 files) all now show all MS XP SP
drivers for USB 2.0, I have SP3 installed.

If you do Properties on the thing, and list the driver files, what
files are in there ?

The picture here, shows the Service Pack currently in place
in your system.

EVERYtime I've had this issue (and it's been many), it's been corrected with
the installation of SP 2. In Device Manager you MUST see 'Enhanced USB
controller' for USB 2 to work. There's nothing wrong with your computer or
Windows. You simply need to install SP 2!

I was hoping you could verify the patch level of Windows
first. By checking to see what Service Pack it says is
installed. For example, this user already has SP2 installed,
so no third party USB2 driver is needed. Microsoft provides it.

http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub0009/UserImages/AI2301.jpg

When I researched this before (three years ago), the
pre-SP1 driver appeared to be this one. Once the
download unzips, you'll find a file like Q312370_WXP_SP1_x86_ENU.exe .
But *don't* use that, until you understand what Service
Pack your OS is at. If you already have SP1 or SP2, you've
already got a driver that is better than this one. This
would be appropriate for very few people now. Even a pirated
copy of Windows, is probably at a higher Service Pack level
than this driver is intended for (original WinXP).

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=888&DwnldID=5552&lang=eng

(Announcement about the driver)
http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/3048-WinXP-USB-2_0-support-leaks.html

To reinstall the driver which is already in Windows, try this.
You'd do this, if you already had SP1, SP2, or SP3 listed as your
Service Pack level. When you remove the entries in Device Manager,
Windows rediscovers the hardware on the next boot, and installs
the correct drivers based on what it detects.

Go to accessories, system tools, system information, open it. What does the
second line "version" indicate?

Have you attempted to download SP 2? What do you mean by "not genuine"? Is
it a bootleg copy (meaning illegal)? Go ahead and download SP 2 and see what
happens. If it's not a valid copy of XP it will refuse to download, but
you'll be stuck with your USB problem and many others too numerous to
mention... but it will keep running as it is. A friend of mine had a
computer "repair shop" load an illegal copy of XP Pro Corporate Version and
had the same issue as yours with USB 2. Many programs and utilities must
have at least SP 2 installed to run properly. Go kick your 'computer tech'
in the ass. If he's reported to Microsoft he will be shut down, just as my
friend's shop was. Good luck! Just out of curiosity, what are the first 5
characters in the XP product key?

BTW - a lot of hardware is dependent on USB 2 also. Also, my friend's
"repair shop" turned off 'Automatic Updates', trying to hide what he did. Is
'Automatic Updates' turned off on your machine?
