USB2 (Highspeed) not detected by XP PRO

If I connect ANY USB Highspeed (USB2) device to ANY USB port, and even if it is the only USB device, I always get the
pop-up message... (XP Pro SP2 is always giving me the same message) "...this device can perform faster if you connect it
to a high-speed USB 2.0 port".

The Bios shows USB Highspeed is enabled. The XP Device Manager shows "USB Enhanced" controller. MB is ASUS P4S8X-MX is
USB 2.

I can't make any sense of this. Indeed I have verified that the data transfer speed is snail slow.

There are several reasons why this message can appear. It would help my
analysis if you could give a little more information.

At what point does the message appear? By this I mean: when you plug your
chosen USB device in, XP acknowledges by giving a "do-ding" sound. Does the
message appear before the sound, immediately after the sound or some time
after the sound (like a second or two)? If the last option how long?

Hey, I was just reading today in MaximumPC Mag PC Fixes edition that the
Sis Chipset
and Intel combo sometimes plays havoc with the USB. There could be a Bios
update for
this Motherboard.
