USB stick makes windows popup an explorer window -- how to disable?

Dear all,

most often, when I plug in an USB-disk, an explorer window pops up.

While many user may like that, I do not want that.

Is there any registry setting that allows me to disable this
behaviour for all and any USB-disk that I plug in to the
USB-interface?

Thanks in advance for any hints and keywords,

Lukas

First, note which drive letter is usually assigned to the USB disk.

Download and install the free TweakUI utility from Microsoft.

TweakUI for Windows XP:

Open TweakUI and expand the My Computer/Autoplay item. Click Drives
and remove the check mark from the drive letter that is usually
assigned to the USB drive.

thank you very much!

Best regards,
