USB Mass Storage Device - External DVD not working

Try to install a Sony external DVD RW drive (DRX530UL). "USB Mass Storage
Device" with a "!" on it in Device Manager, lists the problem as "This
device cannot start. (Code 10)". It does recognize the model number.
Running XP Pro with SP2 installed, it doesn't have USB 2.0 connection.

Tried removing all USB in Device Manager and restarted the computer, still
the same problem.

Connected other USB device and it works, so the USB connection on the
computer is OK.

Connected the DVD drive to another XP Pro system, ran into the same problem,
could it be the drive that has the problem?

Please help.

Did you follow the setup instruction verbatim?

Did it require specific drivers?

If not, then go back to the store and ask them to supply a drive that works
with XP on you PC.

There aren't much as to the instructions, all it asks is to connect and make
sure the computer is on and turn on the DVD. The system goes thru the
process of trying to install, but at the end it fails.
